iowa congressman steve king is lashing out at governor terry branstad for telling iowans caucus. king says the governor's comments are potentially dangerous for the future of the iowa caucuses. he wonders what candidadtes will want to come to the state if they know the governor may campaign directly against them. branstad has criticized cruz for calling for an end to federal support of ethanol. king has endorsed cruz' candidacy. the woodbury county republican party chairman is also criticizing branstad. kevin alons issued a statment reading in part quote "i am very disappointed with governor

cruz. in the end branstad did more to reveal his "establishment" credentials than to tarnish those of presidential candidate ted cruz. alons says woodbury county republican leadership have all pledged to remain neutral in this and other primary elections, in line with president ronald reagan's "11th commandment" stating republicans don't criticize fellow republicans. a sioux city attorney has decided to throw his hat a sioux city attorney has decided to throw his hat in the ring for district 6 of the iowa state house of representatives. republican jim carlin announced his candidacy for the iowa house. dozens gathered in the library in sergeant bluff-luton elementary for the announcement , this afternoon. when asked how he came to this decision, carlin says he's concerned for future generations. "like a lot of grandparents, we're concerned about the future of our grandchildren," said carlin. "we want them to have the same things we had, we want them to have the same opportunities and education and have the same values to build a life with." carlin has been an attorney in

over 23 years. he is also a veteran of the united states army. iowa state representativ e dan huseman announced today he will be running for re-election in district 3. huseman graduated from aurelia high school and buena vista university. huseman serves as chair of the transportatio n, infrastructur e and capitals appropriation s subcommitee. according to a release from the iowa house republicans, huseman says he is pleased with the progress the house has made and looks to continue his efforts in balancing the state budget. district three is comprised of cherokee and o' brien counties as well as four townships in sioux county and four townships in plymouth county. from religion and taxes to social security and renewable fuels, former arkansas governor mike huckabee touted his stance on issues facing the country. the republican brought his faith-based campaign to the siouxland center for active generations this morning. during his sioux city 'huckabee huddle,' he said as president, he would give decision- making power back to the states

the environment. huckabee also talked about restoring what he calls, 'our national soul.' "this country has lost its national soul and by that i mean we used to a country that valued virtue, patriotism. we understood that some things were right and some things were wrong. we upheld that, we instilled that in our children, we made that a part of every community. we weren't always divide by race and economic position," says huckabee. one voter says after hearing huckabee's stance on the issues, he'll be caucusing for him. "i wanted to see where he stood on a lot of things and see as far as the politics, he know about it more than i do. he's facing a lot bigger things than i am, so i just wanted to see if i agreed with the things he said, and i did. i feel comfortable for him to be the man to make the decisions," says craig sandvick, a huckabee supporter. huckabee won the iowa caucuses in 2008, and he says he'll stay strong in his strategy to win this year. he says short cuts or big money won't win over

the man who was shot by police after he pointed a gun at officeres in yankton, south dakota will be sentenced tomorrow. trae angel pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated assault against law enforcement, and one count aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury. officers attempted to take angel into custody back in september when police say he assaulted two people and attempted to carjack a woman at gunpoint. he later pointed a gun at the officers. d-c-i concluded the shooting by officer jason foote was justified. authorities in northern siouxland are alerting the public to yet another scam that's making the rounds. this scam is on facebook and involves lottery winnings. the dickinson county sheriff's office tells our news partner, kuoo radio

fell victim to the scam and lost 10-thousand dollars as a result. authorities say if you see the post, just disregard it. the sheriff's office added it appears the perpetrators of the scam are targeting certain age groups. failure of an electrical circuit in the attic is being blamed for a fire that severly damaged a home in norfolk, nebraska early this morning. the blaze was reported at 2:45 a-m in the 600-block of walnut avenue. flames and heavy smoke were coming from the rear of the house when firefighters arrived on the scene. everybody got out of the home safely. the fire was brought under control within an hour. damages to the home and it's contents are estimated at 45-thousand dollars. a federal safety official has a new warning for consumers with hoverboards. the chairman of the consumer product safety commission is urging consumers with hoverboards to keep a working fire extinguisher nearby. this is due to safety and quality concerns following a

electric scooters bursting into flames while charging or during use. will smith says he will not attend the academy awards next month, joining his wife, jada pinkett smith, and others in protest against two straight years of all-white acting nominees. he said this morning that he and his wife decided that they wouldn't be comfortable "to stand there and say this is ok." some thought smith might be nominated for his performance in the football drama "concussion." he had been nominated twice before, for 2001's "ali" and "the pursuit of happyness" in 2006. didn't get snow during the day. but what about our chances tonight? ron's full forecast is coming up after the break. from religion and taxes to
